Join us on Saturday November 30, 2024 at the South Mountain Reservation in West Orange, NJ for The Squatchy Leftovers Trail Party! You can register to run/hike a 5K, 10K, 25K, 50K or the Kids 1M! We are supporting our non-profit partner, Bigger Than The Trail with this Trail Party! BTTT provides cost-free therapy for anyone who needs it. This event WILL sell-out before race day so register early to avoid being added to the waitlist!

SQUATCHY LEFTOVERS
This is a Sassquad OG event. In fact, it was the first unofficial Sassquad event before Sassquad was even created, back in November of 2017. That first event had about 30 people. Most recently, the 2023 event sold-out with 315 runners and hikers! We always have a lot of families come out to this Trail Party (which just warms our squatchy hearts)!

We are supporting our non-profit partner, Bigger Than The Trail with this Trail Party! BTTT is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that is using trail running as a platform to advocate for mental health. BTTT's mission is to enrich the lives of individuals struggling with mental health. Through their fundraising efforts, BTTT provides free therapy to those in need! charity bibs
NEW FOR 2024: we have a total of 10 charity bibs available for the Squatchy Leftovers 5K and 10K! These 10 Charity Bibs are available even if the race sells out; so this is a great way to get into this event because it always sells-out! Selecting the charity bib option means that you are committed to raising or donating $150 to our charity partner, Bigger Than The Trail, and the deadline for the donation is November 27th. You can choose to make the donation yourself OR we can set up a fundraising page for you so you can raise the $150. You'll need to meet that November 27th fundraising deadline in order to participate in the Squatchy Leftovers. We will follow-up with you through email after you register for the charity bib.

The main trailhead lot fits about 110 cars so it will fill up by 7:30am. Overflow parking will be directed to the side streets off Walker Road; please arrive early so you have enough time to park and walk to Squatch HQ.

Cut-off for all events is 4:30pm sharp! Course Sweepers will leave the start/finish area at 3:45pm to begin sweeping the course.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
We use the same 5K loop from our Frosty Fat Sass Trail Party in January. There are portapottys at the start/finish area. There's 289 ft of gain. The course is a great mix of mellow carriage roads (dirt or gravel-wide trails) and a bit of technical singletrack with rocks and roots. The first mile is a wide dirt trail. The 1/2 mi 200+ ft descent at mile one is very rocky from erosion. There is a 100 ft climb at mile 2.5. The last mile is a singletrack with rocks and roots. This is a GREAT intro to the trails if this is your first event or you're just starting out. If you're going to be out there for 3 or 6 hours, we recommend a grippy shoe that can give ya some comfort over rocks and roots. We will always provide a detailed trail conditions report leading up to the race and will include recommendations for any winter traction devices! You can download the gpx file and map below. Trekking poles are allowed at all of our events.
AID STATION
Our Volunteer Dream Team will bring all of the Trail Magic to the Aid Station! We will have hot food, plenty of snacks as well as water and Skratch Hydration. As always, we will have a large assortment of gluten-free and vegan options. Aid Station may include the following: fruit, ice pops, GF fruit snacks, granola bars, GF Oreos, GF pretzels, GF tortilla chips, GF corn tortillas, quesadillas, bacon, pierogies, ramen, veggie broth etc. The Aid Station is located at the start/finish area, so you will pass it on every loop (every 3.1M). We always have a fully stocked first aid kit and AED at Squatch HQ. Our first aid kit includes menstrual products and wipes. We also provide private changing tents that are available for use before, during, and after our races. And making its debut at the 2024 Squatchy Leftovers is the "JACKALOPE TENT". The Jackalope Tent is a quiet space that is available at most of our Trail Parties. The tent is away from the crowds and loud music. Stop by the Jackalope Tent when you need a break. The Jackalope Tent is a multi-use space that is also available for breastfeeding. Why do we call it the Jackalope Tent? Jackalopes are peaceful cryptids and are also excellent singers (usually tenor).

Chaos Crewing Co. is excited to host a crew-centered support tent at Squatchy Leftovers! In addition to providing race support to any runner in need, they will have light refreshments and snacks for crew! Chaos Crewing invites all crew and spectators to visit the tent share race stories, and ask questions about crewing ultra-marathons and FKTs! They will also have a theragun and foam roller station, and a fully stocked crew-kit.
COURSE MARKINGS
The course will be well-marked with neon pink/reflective ribbon. We have large red directional arrows at each of the turns. crew & pacers
As with all of our events, Squatchers over the age of 60 and AWD (athletes with disabilities) can have a pacer/guide at any time. Please pre-register your pacer with us before the start of the Trail Party. Pacers are not allowed for folks under the age of 60 and who are not an AWD.

All runners/hikers can have a Crew join them at the Trail Party for the duration of the event. Crew access is only available at Squatch HQ. Crew cannot aid their runner/hiker at any other spot on the course. Crews are encouraged to bring ice if they anticipate their runner/hiker needing ice during the event. Crew are welcome to set up their own pop-up tents at Squatch HQ in the designated areas. All tents and canopies MUST be staked/weighted down (they will fly away if they aren't staked down).

​The start/finish at Squatch HQ is an awesome spot for friends and family to hang out! Plenty of picnic tables to use and a large field for kids to run around. We have a range of fun games that your family can enjoy: corn hole, connect four, a giant rainbow parachute, and the Squatch Hunt. Don't be shy, join in on the fun!
GETTING TO THE RACE
The race starts and finishes at the Turtleback Rock Picnic Area off of Walker Road in West Orange at the South Mountain Reservation. We'll be able to fit about 110 cars in the Turtleback Rock Picnic Area Lot. After the main parking lot is full, our Volunteers will direct overflow parking to the side streets off of Walker Road. Q: What's the weather like in West Orange, NJ in November?
A: It could be cold. Maybe. It could be warm. Check the weather before the race and dress appropriately. The zip code for the race is 07052. T
Q: What food will you have at the aid station?
A: We will have a wide variety of traditional ultra running food, as well as many vegan and gluten-free items. You are more than welcome to bring your own food/water and setup your own aid station in the parking lot. You will come back to the lot after every loop.
Q: Are there restrooms at the start/finish area?
A: There are portajohns at the start/finish area.
Q: This will be my first trail race. What do I need to know?
A: Sweep the Leg. Do you have a problem with that, Mr. Lawrence? No mercy.. Seriously, we are SO EXCITED that you are choosing a Sassquad event for your first trail race! This is a great choice for your first race because these trails have a bit of everything! You'll run on easy carriage roads, technical singletracks and enjoy flat trails and hilly trails. You're going to LOVE it!
Q: Can I have a pacer?
A: As with all of our events, Squatchers over the age of 60 and AWD (athletes with disabilities) can have a pacer/guide at any time. Please fill out the pacer registration form ahead of time and be sure to pick-up a pacer bib during check-in! Pacers are not allowed for other runners and hikers without prior approval from the Trail Party Director.
Q: I can't come to the Trail Party anymore, can I get a refund?
A: ​Like many other race organizations, we do not offer refunds for our events. Please take the time to double check your calendar before registering for a Trail Party. Please understand that we do not offer refunds under any circumstances. If you notify us via email (not through social media, text or phone call) more than 21 days from the date of the Trail Party, we will extend a deferral to any of our events that fall within one calendar year of the Trail Party that you were registered for. If you sustain an injury less than 21 days from the race date, we will extend a deferral if you come to that race to volunteer for at least 4 hours. If the race that you want to drop from is sold-out with an active wait-list and are able to fill your spot: if you notify us via email (not through social media, text or phone call) at least 3 days before the race, we will extend a deferral to any of our events that fall within one calendar year of the Trail Party that you were registered for. The race credit is the amount that you paid for the race (not including UltraSignUp fees) so you will need to cover any difference in fees; refunds will not be issued if the deferred event costs less than your race credit. You can only defer one time so please doublecheck that you can make the race you're deferring to.
Q: I could get lost in a brown paper bag. Will the course be marked?
A: Wax on, right hand. Wax off, left hand. Wax on, wax off. Breathe in through nose, out the mouth. Wax on, wax off. Don't forget to breathe, very important. We will have bright colored ribbons along the course and plenty at all of the turns.
​Q: Me and my friend aren't registered for the race, but we're still planning on coming to run. We won't eat from the aid station or take a medal or swag. This is okay, right?
A: NO THIS IS NOT OKAY. This is called being a "race bandit" and it is stealing. Not paying for a race and running the race is stealing from the race organization (even if you're not taking food or swag). Don't do this at a Sassquad trail party or ANY other race. It's not okay. If you bandit a race, you will be banned from registering for any of our Sassquad events.
Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Sorry, but your pup has to stay at home for this race. Our liability insurance does not cover dogs at our events; thank you for understanding!
Q: Can I sign my kids up for the Trail Party?
A: Yes! We want the WHOLE family to come out to our events! We have a special discount code for families registering 3 or more Squatches in the same household. Please email us (trailpartydirector@sassquadtrailrunning.com) before you register so we can give you the code! Once you have the code, be sure to register your child separately and agree to the waiver for minors. And make sure to keep track of little Daniel before during and after the race. . We only have 1 search-party and they're already out there looking for Sasquatch.
